Opel is Finished – Its cars are commodity, prices slashed

If you look at any leasing companies forecourt in Europe there is one brand that dominates. Opel.

Opel are producing cars far in excess of what they can sell.

Opel’s mission is to simply pump out as many cars as they can to make their figures look good and hopefully make money on volume rather than margin.

When you see the amount of Opel cars on lease you can see that Opel is literally pissing through cash, if you can excuse the expression.

You can imagine Opel sales executives offering absolutely ridiculous “bulk” discounts on it’ s vehicles just move the product.

The massive over capacity of Opel is literally making its cars worthless.

Opel still has it in-car aesthetics, but when it comes to the harder aspect of the driving experience, Opel’s are plain white bread or corn flakes without sugar.

Opel car’s are, and have been for many years, completely devoid of soul.

Why anyone would in their right mind buy an Opel car with their own money when they can buy a Nissan or a Mazda instead is beyond me.

The innovation and care that goes into Japanese cars are light years ahead of Opel. The only thing Opel has going for it is the looks of its cars, but that is not enough.

Opel needs to enter bankruptcy so it can massively downscale its operation.

If I was to pick a figure out of the air I would say Opel needs to downsize by at least 75%. And increase its prices to build up margin.

What about Opel’s pension obligations? The people who were making the car should have known they were no good. Their decision to continue to make bad cars is rewarded by the company not being able to meet its pensions obligations.

Opel needs to change its mentality.

Opel it a typical massive company. They are scared to do anything because they are scared of losing the sales they already have.

Opel may still have massive sales but the company is losing over half a billion Euros a year. Trust me, Opel has nothing to lose by pushing the boundaries of its car designs.

The only way Opel has a long-term future is by improving its product. Employing chassis designers from Nissan and build quality engineers from Toyota would be an excellent start.
