Two sides to every headline

But why?

Germany has made it quite clear that it is the Greek government’s choice as the whether they want bail out money or not.

Greece is free to walk away from its debt if it feels that the bailout money comes with conditions which are un acceptable.

Germany has also made it clear that Greece will not be forced out of the Euro if it decides to default.

So why is the Greek government so upset?

It is their choice after all.

Perhaps the Papademos regime wants to have its cake and it wants to eat it.

Germany understands the Greek political landscape perfectly.

Germany knows the Papandreou and Papademos regime are playing  political games with the bailout money the country is receiving.

What political games are the Papademos regime playing?

1. Threatening Greeks with Drachma if austerity measure snot implemented – The goal is for Greek to accept austerity willingly.

2. Not cutting government costs in face of a default – Even though the government is calling a default a catastrophe, it will not lay off government workers in any meaningful numbers. The Papademos regime is trying to keep the support of public sector workers by keeping them in work and also by blackmailing them. “Support the austerity measures or you will be out of work”

3. Blaming Germany for hardships in Greece when the Greek government is voluntarily implementing austerity measures – Germany has been the strongest supporter of the Greek people. Germany has all but told the Greek government to default. Germany’s recommendations are the opposite of that being given by politicians in Greece. The Greek political establishment must destroy Germany’s credibility so Greeks will not support Germany’s recommendations.

4. Threatening Greeks entitled to, or dependant on, social security. Papademos regime has stated it will cut pensions and benefits as a first measure should the country to default even though the people the government has made most dependant on the state should be left until last.

Threatening social security payments exposes the type of people who are in charge of the country. It also shows that those controlling the country have to interest in acting in the best interest of the Greek people.

To summarise the Greek political regime is doing the following.

1. Reducing the wealth of Greeks deliberately and part of a long-term strategy

2. Forcing Greeks to accept lower standard of living under the threat of the Drachma

3. Alienating Greek public opinion against Germany because Germany is the strongest supporter of the Greek people

4. Threatening to cut off Greeks dependant on government aid to coerce the dependants into accepting the austerity and the reduction in the wealth of Greeks in general. Government dependants whether they be claiming social security or working for the government.

For the Greek “government” to state they are “angered” is hypocrisy in its most extreme. The Greek government is voluntarily accepting measures proposed by Germany so the Greek political establishment can continue to play games with the Greek people.

If a Greeks were being asked to give money to a corrupt political regime in Kazakstan, I am sure the Greek people would want to put one of their men in the government to ensure the Kazakstani government was not pocketing the cash and to make sure the Kazakstani government was doing the right thing with their money.

Germany trusts the Greek people.

It is the Greek government that Germany does not trust.

One more thing Germany has got in common with most Greeks, it’s mistrust of the Greek political system.
