Greek Elections 2012-A Solution To The Deadlock

So the parties can’t come to an agreement. I say so what?

The problem seems to be they cannot elect a prime minister, a single representative for all parties. Okay, if they cannot decide, why not let the people decide on their prime minister?

He would only be a figure-head, he would have no real power unless he could get a majority of the politicians to agree with him.

Would that be so bad?

Would it be so bad to have a prime minster who would only have power if he could get a majority of the elected politicians to vote for him?

Is that not what democracy is about?

Why is it so important that the parties do not agree?

How about this.

At elections people vote for the representative for their area, like they do now and they make another vote for Prime Minister. They can vote for anyone that chooses to run for Prime Minister, be it a politician, a businessman, a regular citizen, whoever

The prime minister is the representative of the country and he has to get the support of the elected politicians to do what he wants.

What is the worst that can happen?

Nothing gets agreed?

No new laws are passed, no new tax increases are passed, how bad would that be?

I think the problem of not being able to agree on a Prime Minster is being blown out of all proportion and it is only the law that makes it this way.

Politicians change laws, that is their job, I do not see why they cannot amend the law to make this sort of democracy a reality.

I do not understand why a government is invalid because there was not a clear majority, what is wrong with their being a good balance of parties in parliament with an independent prime minster?
