Are Greek politicians being unwittingly used to manipulate Greeks into accepting the surrender of their countries sovereignty to Europe?
Greek politicians are being told the bankers that the best action they can take is to force the inflation of the Euro currency to save the European banking system.
This is the article that got me thinking. Basically there are 2 parties. The EU Commission who want a European superstate and you have the insolvent banks and governments who want to inflate away the debts.
Greece can give help give both these parties what they want, only Germany is standing in the way.
Germany is resisting the inflation policy so Greek politicians have been given the job of shaming Germany into a policy change.
Greek politicians may believe they are doing the best thing for the country even if there is a lot of short-term pain.
Greek politicians are deliberately sabotaging the Greek economy into poverty and placing the blame at the feet of Germany. The media in Greece are fully on board with blaming Germany for the actions of the Greek politicians.
International pressure will be put on Germany if the economy in Greece degenerates into food and fuel shortages
But are the Greek politicians being manipulated?
They are being told that the inflation of the Euro will reduce their debts but the actions the Greek politicians are taking are weakening their authority and will ultimately lead to Greeks accepting or even requesting the control of their country to be handed over to Brussels.
Could both the international banks and the EU Commission get what they want?
The international banks get the inflation of the Euro and the EU Commission gets real, direct political power over Greece.
In the process Germany is portrayed as being heartless and uncaring for the suffering the Greek politicians have caused in Greece.
Who are the losers if this were to pan out?
Greek people obviously. In the short-term their quality of life is destroyed. In the long-term their democracy is also destroyed.
Germany’s international image takes a beating and if Germany were to remain in the Euro, Germany’s financial strength versus other western countries will be reduced.
Like the title says, it is just a theory.
sadly, none of this theory holds, when you understand now this country works. We are in fact at the mercy of the powerful unions, particularly the Civil Servants – the largest employer group – most adults work for the govenment. Work is a term lightly used. They have nothing to do, and seek corrupt payments from citizens to augment their pay. Most politicians are terrified of the union leaders. No one can work in any occupation without beloning to the relevant union, and the “committee” of that union hold secret ballots and bully their “members” into striking. They hold mass rallies, where only 1 or 2% turn up , the workers don’t want o strike and lose pay, they have no option. The union leaders lock them out. This is UK in the 50’s and 60’s. Everyone is stuck – there is no master plan, there is only greed, confusion, fear, self serving bullying. If only there were a master plan it would imply we are being led by someone – but we are blundering forward without leadership. even our corruption is diffuse and from every quarter so you can never as a business person, pay everyone off. They come from everywhere seeking to close you down for some new invented infraction. Unless you pay.
Okay, point taken.
If I changed the title of the article to “Are Greek politicians and union leaders being…..” I would be closer to the mark?
Richard – it is dawning on me, as I watch Parliament “implementing” the “German” ( not all eu, always just “German”) dictates to meet the requirements of the troika payments. Our Parliament agrees, the unions whip up street protests, honour is satisfied, newspapers rant about German invasions, smoke and mirrors all round. but guess what? Nothing happens. No changes have taken place, no labour laws are different, nothing has been sold, tax depts still steal and sell jobs, no one has been sacked, no bureacracy has been reformed and on and on. We run several business here against mind bogglings odds caused by the corruption of the Gov Depts – and the same criminals are at the same desks enacting the same nonsense daily. SO fear not – at the end of the day, the Greeks will simply renege of every agreement, refuse to pay any money and generaly do what they have always done, avoid responsiblity. You can’t manipulate a Greek. He is far ahead of you in the duplicity department.
