Some estimates put the number of people protesting in Thessaloniki at over 10,000 people. The protest was not tied to any union or political party it was simply the people voicing their unhappiness at the austerity measures being inflicted onto the Greek people at the current time.
It seems the biggest issue is with the high levels of taxes now being paid by the average Greek. VAT/Sales Tx is up by 4% and fuel costs have doubled in 2 years.
There doesn’t appear to be any specific demands which is disappointing but a demand for lowering of the taxes could be a good start.
