News Cymru

Two sides to every headline

From day one Samaras has said it was a mistake to raise taxes in a recession and expect to increase tax revenues.

Indeed, every economist I know of agrees on this fact, even the IMF.

However the Troika seemed to be determined to get Samaras to commit to keeping taxes in Greece high, something that Samaras has said is doing more harm than good.

It is not clear if this is the sticking point with the Troika but it is the only obvious thing that the Troika could be asking for the Samaras diagrees with.

Again, for me Samaras is showing he will stick to his principles in the face of international pressure, something that Papandreou could never have been accused of.

It would seem the Troika have an easy way out of the stalemate but on the other hand they in prime position to be able to humiliate Greece’s last respected politician.

I can imagine the headlines now, “Samaras destroy’s Greece for the sake of political ambition…”
