Chaz Davies had a rollercoaster of a weekend on the ParkinGo Aprilia, crashing out of second position in race 1 and finishing 3rd in Race 2.

Conditions improved for Race 2 and Melandri took full advantage, earning the win and taking over the championship points lead from Biaggi. Sykes held steady in second, trailing by just 0.976 seconds and ParkinGO MTC Racing’s Chaz Davies took his second podium of the season in third.
“It’s been an awesome day for me because Race 1 was very tough, so finishing second was for me like a win,” said Melandri. “But in Race 2 I felt very good, my crew chief made a small modification on the bike and I felt very confident from the beginning. About six or seven laps to go, my rear tire was sliding a lot but was working perfectly with my BMW. I’m so happy because this year we are doing a great job.”

On the weekend it was assured his immediate future remains with Kawasaki in the World Superbike Championship, Tom Sykes celebrated his new 2013 contract in perfect style with his second win – and first haul of 25 points – of the season season.
The British rider has been victorious once already this year at Monza, but the early stoppage meant he was only rewarded with 12.5 points on that occasion.
However, with the first race of the day at the Moscow Raceway taking place in tricky conditions, a confident Sykes sprung to the front from the first bend and proceeded to multiply his advantage to 3.3secs in just four laps.
With his rivals battling it out for second place behind him, Sykes was left to cruise to an easy lights-to-flag victory, the win coming just 24 hours after it was announced he had re-signed with the manufacturer for the 2013 season.

The Italian BMW rider took a win in race two at the all-new Moscow Raceway to move 18.5 points ahead of Aprilia’s Max Biaggi in the title chase, after the “Roman Emperor” crashed out.
“It is an unbelievable day. To win here at the first ever round of the Superbike World Championship in this country is something special and I am just very, very happy,” said Melandri.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Melandri though: his second in race one came despite tricky wet conditions and a nasty wasp sting.
