PASOK Members Criticizes Austerity Measures

Although I am not convinced of the socialist mentality, the words coming from socialist ministers in Greece is right on the money

ekathimerini reports “There is no plan, just as there was no plan last year,” she said, claiming that current efforts by the government to slash spending and raise much-needed revenue would soon lose momentum. Vasso Papandreou Something which I have believed in from the start. Tax increases only give a very short term boost to revenues before they actually have the opposite effect in the long run because of the damage they do to the economy

Another Socialist lawmaker, Paris Koukoulopoulos, claimed that the government risked “losing touch with reality.” “The only two things we have achieved are to drain bank deposits and fill city squares with people,” he remarked. Again, something I have been saying all along. The current measures seemed to be designed to wipe out the liquid wealth of the Greek people with providing a light at the end of the tunnel.

Both these politicians are correct in what they say. There is no long term plan to make Greece a strong economy in the future. These measures will simply reduce the standard of living of the Greeks in the long run.

I have been saying the lack of coverage of the daily protest on mass international televised media has been a complete joke. BBC have finally given the protest slightly more oxygen this morning with pictures showing the thousands of people that are standing outside the Greek parliament.

On Sunday it was reported that 50,000 people were reported protesting outside the Greek parliament and around 10,000 people protesting at the White Tower in Thessaloniki.

If 50,000 people had decided to stand outside the House of Commons in London, or outside the White House in Washington there would be considerably more media coverage than the Greek protests and if there were daily protests I think it would be safe to say that London and Washington protests would be headline news.

If the protests continue the media will have to start covering them because at the moment they are exposing themselves as been completely biased in favour of Greek politicians and against the Greek people. Given that Obama has said that the failure of Greece could lead to a global domino effect there is absolutely no logic for the lack of international media coverage of the Greek protests.

I mean, no one can say the protests are inconsequential given Protesters outside the White Tower Thessaloniki, Greecethe rhetoric being spewed out by the EU, IMF and the World Bank about the importance of a Greek bail out for the Euro Zone and the world at large
