Is This The End of The “Good” Europe

I think we are witnessing the dismantling of the positive pieces of Europe. The pieces that made people agree with the bad stuff.

The bad stuff like unelected people making laws and regulations that the people have to obey. The bad part where the majority of laws in the EU are now passed in Brussels. The bad part where democratically elected MEPs cannot put forward new laws of their own.

What dismantling are we talking about? Perhaps the 2 things that allowed the bad stuff to get through namely the Euro and the free movement of people.

What has happened to make me think we could be witnessing the end of free movement and the currency? Well we have written extensively about the Greek problem which is related to the Euro.

The free movement issue is looking more and more shaky, first of all it was the North African issue. France wants to attack Libya to help people. But it does not want to help people if they want to escape the violence and go to France. I still can’t get over the hypocracy.

Italy quite rightly granted the people fleeing visa and then France declared they couldn’t move to France. Which is at the heart of Schengen ie free movement of people.

And now we have the e-coli problem. The way this has been reported really beggars belief. The media is focusing what country the e-coli has come from, like that helps anyone do anything. If it was domestic outbreak, people would want to know which farm it came from not which county. It is almost as if the mainstream media is trying to stir up nationalist feelings to make people hostile to the neighbours in other European countries.

I hope it doesn’t work but the media machine is very strong. People need to look at this the same as they would if it were a domestic food source issue. ie where did it come from exactly and find out what they need to do to protect themselves.

If the press were to report that there was an e-coli outbreak from “the north of England” people would quite rightly ask what the hell the news is talking about. People expect the authorities to know what specific farm the disease came from, not for the authorities to be so clueless that they give a region.

To say that the problem vegetables came from X country is either complete incompetence or like a said, a ploy to stir up nationalist feelings. And given that the rewriting of the Shengen issue is currently on the table in Brussels, I fear the latter.

So assuming the worst case scenario, what will we be left with without the Euro and without Free Movement of Goods and People.

We will be right back to where we were before the EU except we will be obliged to obey laws and regulations passed by unelected officials in a different country. Wasn’t the point of WW2 to stop this?
