I have written many times before about Venizelos and how he seems to be able to support two beliefs simultaneously even though those two beliefs are completely contradictory to one another.
The expose that he is a fan of Winston Churchill is the best I have heard yet.
It came from an interview he had with the Guardian newspaper
Navigating the country through the turmoil had involved sleepless nights and, says the self-declared Churchill fan, learning the art of self-control.
Like I said, there have been countless examples of doublethink coming from Venizelos, sometimes even in the same sentence but this is the best example yet.
To give a bit of background. Venizelos is the leader of the socialist party in Greece.
And this is Churchill’s beliefs on socialism
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.
Like I said, I am struggling to think of a better example of a contradiction.
I am sure Venizelos would say he does not believe with everything the Chruchill did, and he would be right, I mean who agrees with someone else completely?
But that fact remains, Chruchill despises the fundamental political foundations of Venizelos’s beliefs, how can Venizelos call him a fan of someone whose philosophy of life is so diametrically opposed to his own.
Maybe Venizelos simply likes reading quotes from Churchill and/or listening to his speeches?

More like a fan of Benito Mussolini I’d say. It’s not by accident that we call him Benny.
Benny’s “socialist beliefs”? Nice one. Benny has no socialist beliefs; in fact he has no beliefs at all. Now don’t expect the average PASOK voter to have any idea who Winston Churchill was or what he stood for. So Beeny can talk all the BS he wants no one will criticise him.
