Welshman Chaz Davies 3rd World Superbike Championship Aragon Spain

Race 2 at Aragon in Spain was a slug fest.

Chaz Davies on the ParkinGo Aprilia had a lot of ground to make up having started further back.

The leading 3 riders of Max Biaggi, Eugene Laverty and Marco Melandri had made a break at the start of the race but lap by lap Chaz Davies reeled them in.

It was an epic battle throughout the race with the three lading riders constantly passing each other which helped Chaz Davies on the ParkinGo Aprilia get on terms.

The Aragon circuit has a 1.8km staright followed by an extremely tight hairpin which gave plenty of opportunities for overtaking and mistakes.

As soon as Chaz Davies got on terms with Melandri, Biaggi, and Laverty he made a move almost immediately.

Melandri was constantly block passing going into the tight hairpin slowing down himself and the rider he was overtaking.

When we made his move on Biaggi it opened to the door for Laverty to take the lead and Davies to take up second place. This continued for a couple of laps.

Melandri trying to take Davies with his block pass was unsuccessful, Davies coolly letting Melandri take the inside and then criss crossed him on the exit to take his place back.

This is one of the closet World Super Bike races I have seen in a while and it was real heart in mouth stuff right up to the end.

Davies was the underdog so it was easy to explain why the commentary team were going bananas when he took up second place!

In the end Melandri took Laverty and Chaz Davies to take the win and Davies held off Max Biaggi to take a well deserved third place on the Parkingo Aprilia
