The news has picked on the fact that he was known to intelligence services so how could this of happened.

Indeed.

The first shooting of a soldier should have raised eyebrows.

The second shooting of 3 soldiers with automatic weapons should have given the local police a pretty small shortlist of suspects. Yet it seems nothing was done.

The Guardian picked up on something interesting. The guy was out of work yet he had many expensive weapons. The hunt should be on for his accomplices, for sure there are some.

France 24 touched on the tactics used by the FBI in the USA. Could the French government have been doing something similar and things got out of their control?

The Daily Mail gives a truly bizarre article on the whole incident.

Sarkozy has been typical in his response. Before the background an investigation has even been carried out he wants to arrest people for visiting websites the French government does not approve of.

It seems to be accepted fact that the gunman was responsible for all the shooting. But they real investigation needs to start now.

Who trained him, who supplied him with weapons, how did he identify the soldiers and how did he select his targets and who in law enforcement had he been in contact with over the past years.

Personally, I believe we will not find out anything more, much like the gun man in Belgium.
