Samaras & Venizelos – Good Cop, Bad Cop – 2 Sides Of The Same Coin?

A reader of i4w has opened my eyes to new possibilities.

I have been banging the drum for Samaras for at least the last year, he was saying all the right things, I thought he must be the man with the plan.

And then a reader left this comment in response to this article

It’s not just that; if  we don’t vote for Venizelos or his “right wing” counterpart Samaras then the sea will run dry and the sky will fall on our heads. We’re gonna go back to the stone age and become hunter-gatherers! No no its not an empty threat its a serious warning! Actually “sending the country back 20 years” isn’t a bad idea. 20 years ago the numbers were much better especially unemployment was much much lower than it is now. It just sounds scary but its actually a good thing!

And this got me thinking. Could it be possible that Venizelos and Samaras are actually one and the same thing?

I have been constantly saying how Venizelos has been saying exactly the wrong things and that he sticking by his guns no matter what.

Could it be that Venizelos is simply playing his part in this soap opera. Is Venizelos there to make Samaras look good?

Have I completely misunderstood the situation?

I’ll be honest, Greeks have been telling me I have it wrong, that it is a big mistake for me to fall for the words of Samaras.

Some Greeks have even told me that Samaras cannot be trusted.

But now I hear that Samaras is open to the possibility of forming a government with PASOK and this is the exact opposite of what Samaras has been saying until now.

I hope my initial judgement was right but as things are playing out I am beginning to feel I have been extremely naive about the whole situation.

There needed to be a contrary voice to PASOK, Papandreou and Venizelos to make things look balanced. And Samaras was the balancing voice.

When I think about it, it makes perfect sense. There was no way PASOK were going to get back into power after what they have done to Greece. The powers that be knew this.

Could it be that Venizelos’s job has to be to put David Beckham like crosses into the box in the form of promising more of the same and threatening Greeks with calamity, just so Samaras can volley the balls into the net and be the hero of the whole charade?

I mean, Venizelos has been saying such obviously unpopular things giving Samaras all the time and space he needs to choose exactly which part of the goal he is going to rocket the ball into.

I am beginning to feel I have been played like a violin.

I am beginning to think Samaras and Venizelos have simply been playing their different roles on the same team, I hope am I wrong about this.

I would love to hear your opinions….
