Hoge Is Back! – ESPN Analysis Reaches New Level

Hoge was back this week and the first words out of his mouth were “and I have evidence”

As if to prove the point.

Hoge has been in for some criticism on his views of Tim Tebow for the past few weeks but like I have been saying, Hoge has always stated what his views were based on.

He has never stated randomly “Tebow is great” or “Tebow is awesome”

Hoge, in his analysis aways comes and says I think this because…..

And what do you know? Hasselbeck, instead of swinging his leg, also has to come out with some video evidence to support his views. This can only be a good thing.

So you have NFL Primetime now constantly making relatively advanced observations of the way teams are playing and NFLPrimetime now backs up its assessments with video evidence.

Something that was not happening when Hoge is not on the show.

But it is hard for Merril Hoge to be rolling out all his video footage and for the other talking heads like Hasselbeck to have nothing, Hoge makes them look bad, which could be an explanation for the apparent mocking that talking heads dish out in Merril’s direction, especially of late.

Trey Wingo being by far the biggest perpetrator of this mocking and yet Twingo, is also the least qualified person to be mocking any ex NFL professional.

How Trey Wingo believes he is qualified to mock the observations and analysis of Merril Hoge is beyond me, especially considering any analysis Trey Wingo carries out is spoon fed to him by the ESPN back room staff.

Trey needs to sit back and try to learn from Hoge, because, personally, when I see someone mocking the analysis of someone I find insightful it does come across as a little bit insulting.

When Trey Wingo is mocking the analysis of Hoge, he is also mocking the people who are learning from Hoge’s analysis.

I can only assume that Trey Wingo feels insecure about the analysis Hoge comes out with, Trey fails to understand or comprehend what Hoge is saying so is natural defence mechanism is not mock. Highly unprofessional behaviour and to be honest, it is getting a bit old, especially, as I mentioned before, when Trey does not come out with anything insightful himself.

If he has nothing positive to say, perhaps he should not say anything.

And while I am on the subject of Trey Wingo, is it me or is he laying it on a bit thick when he is commentating on the highlight reels? Is he trying to out Hoge Hoge?

As I have been saying all along, Hoge lifts analysis to a new level and is constantly bring new vocabulary into viewers lexicon.

The hacks on ESPN need to stop mocking Hoge for taking so much time to analyse film. The hacks need to respect the audience who want to be treated as intelligent individuals and start lifting the game of their analysis instead of relying on backroom staff to provide the video footage and materials for their teleprompter.

American Football is one of, if not thee greatest team sport on the planet and the game analysis should also be the greatest in the world. The analysis needs to be first class so viewers can fully appreciate the work that teams and players put in week in week out to perfect plays and to win ball games.
