News Cymru

Two sides to every headline

I was speaking to a Greek lady yesterday and she was wondering what the effect would be in Greece now that Spain was having problems.

Her thinking was that such Spain is so much bigger than Greece the Troika will simply forget about Greece and stop sending money.

This is not a point of view I have heard in the past 4 years so it was a bit of an eye opener.

It was an eye opener but it was inline with the greater feeling that I sense in Greece and that is that the country needs outside help, which as I have said before, I do not believe is the case.

For people to think the Troika is helping the country shows what a total job the Greek media has done on the Greek people.

Despite Greece going through the longest recession recorded anywhere in the world for the past hundred years, despite there being no light at the end of the tunnel, despite the economic situation still being in decline, despite the fact that wages and pensions have been cut, despite the fact that the government still has the same deficit as in 2008, Greeks continue to believe that the Troika and the bail outs are helping the country.

It has got to the point where people are unable to make sense of what is happening around them. It is exactly as described in this video.

Despite all the evidence showing the bailouts are destroying the country, people still believe the bailouts and continued funding from the EU is the way forward.

It is a mass delusion that is being propagated by fear. Fear which is being put into the minds of the Greek people by politicians and the media.

The situation is a disgrace but the Greeks need to start helping themselves and wake up to what is happening.

In what can only be seen as a cruel joke by people who want to see Greece return to the Drachma, you have the far left calling out the situation and saying Greece should exit the talks with the Troika, this would inevitably lead to a default.

If there is one way I would choose to totally discredit capitalist solutions it would be to get socialists to support them.

Syriza, who have absolutely no plan what to do if the country were to default, are the only ones calling for a Greek exit from talks from the Troika.

Syriza’s support of the a default is totally discrediting the default option as the sensible and logical answer to Greece’s problems.

You could not make this stuff up. It is a massive piece of theater that the Greek people have been mesmerized by.

Greece needs to default as soon as possible and don’t get me started on the nonsense that is now raging in the media that a default equals a Euro exit. It does not.
