Greek Politicians Continue to Threaten Greek Citizens

Athens News carried a story today regarding a statement made by Evangelos Venizelos the new finance minister.

Of course the article spews out the usual fluff given by politicial commentators but it did quote Venizelos a couple of times

“It is very easy for one to voice harsh criticism of the tax measures which, by their very nature, are unpleasant for the citizens. But that’s not what this is about.

Apparently the opinions of the people do not matter. Is this what we have come to? Where the politicians openly tell the population that their opninions do not matter. That the austerity measures are not about them? Have the politicians in Greece become so detached from the people that voted them in, that they have forgotten what their purpose as politicians is supposed to be? ie represent the wishes of the people.

He goes on It is about existing, necessary moves of salvation. What the country urgently needs is stabilization of the situation so that, immediately afterwards, all the required improvements will be made and the prospect that the entire Greek society seeks will be formulated,” Venizelos continued.

It would be helpful if he could specify at what level will the country be at when it is stabilized. People will be as poor as people in Haiti but the economy will be stable? Saying stability means nothing. What improvements are being made? And what evidence is there that what he says are improvements actually are? Basically his statement is the usual rubbish you get from politicians, their words make good sound bites but there is nothing specific said.

He continues “It is, therefore, a shame that the collective psychology of the country is undermined and a sense of impasse and injustice prevails, without at the same time no one undertaking the responsibility for an integrated counter-proposal that is less painful for the citizens but on the other hand safe, and not dangerous, for them and the national economy,” the finance minister added.

No undertaking the responsibility for an counter proposal? Has he looked out the window of the parliament? It seems not, people have the answer and it involves rope.

And not dangerous for them? What is that supposed to mean? Papandreou and Venizelos are talking like no country has ever defaulted before. Which is obviously rubbish, everyone knows Argentina defaulted in 2001 and it was not a catastrophy and Greece itself has defaulted many times and like I have said before it is different for Greece this time, the default won’t be nearly as harsh as any other default in the history of the World because even after the default the money in the pockets of the Greek will still be worth something, they will still have Euros.

Like I have said before, it is situations like this which is what the Euro was created for. the whole point of the euro is to protect the countries inside the Eurozone.

The only people who will really suffer if Greek defaults will be the banks, make no mistake the austerity measures are to save banks and NOT to save the Greek people. The banks do not care about Greece or the Greek people and neither do the politicians that support the criminal bankers.

The more the austerity measures last the more painful a default will be for the Greek people. If Greece had followed Merkels advice Greece would have defaulted and the Greek economy would have been re financed by the first 110bilion Euro bail out. As it is the only people who gained from the bail outs are the international bankers.
