Facebook – Is There A Critical Framework Issue?

Let me first explain where I am coming from.

In my opinion the Facebook interface is crap, sorry, but the word describes my feeling perfectly.

The Facebook user interface is dated and it is limited.

To highlight my point I urge you to visit the Facebook pages of some major corporations and then compare those pages with the websites of those same companies (so you know their crap Facebook page is not due to lack of IT web design knowledge).

And this is why I believe Facebook could have a critical issue with its framework.

If you have ever had a website based on a certain framework, for example Joomla and you wanted to transfer that website do a different system, WordPress for example, you will know what a nightmare it is to transfer a website from one framework to another.

And this is just with an average sized website. The bigger the site, the bigger the problem. And Facebook is simply massive.

So if the current Facebook interface is limited could it be down to the framework it is built on?

The only explanation I can come up with that would explain one of the world’s most popular websites looking so decrepit and being so limited in its features is that it is down to the framework the site is  built on.

In short, in my mind it is possible that the framework Facebook is built on is severely limiting the development of the Facebook website into something that is easily developed and something that is easily customisable by its users.

I will admit, I am not expert when it comes to Facebook, I hardly ever use it, so I take my opinions from businesses that clearly have huge IT departments dedicated website development. And you can see, even these companies that spend millions on their web presence, that their Facebook page is much the same as yours.

If the Facebook framework is the problem, then it is a major problem that is not only difficult to fix but also has massive to potential to destroy the service if Facebook were to transfer over to a new framework. The potential to lose data is massive.

But I get ahead of myself.

I do not even know if Facebook has a framework issue, the purpose of this article is merely to highlight the possibility as an explanation for the crappy user interface that Facebook uses.
