The primary reason why Greece has its current problems is the monopoly of power in Athens. 95% of all taxes passes through central government in Greece. Source: How to cut spending and still win an election

That is a monopoly, I think everyone will agree. And if there is one thing socialists and capitalists will agree on is that a monopoly is a bad thing for customers.

Capitalists and socialists will agree that a company or organisation in a monopolistic position will inevitably abuse its power for money and control.

To reduce the monopolistic power of Athens the taxes raised in Greece need to stay in the area where they are raised.

Power over tax collection and the setting of taxes should be given to the Greek city states for them to decide how much tax revenue they need and what it should be spent on.

This would give the people of Greece choice. If they felt that the taxes in one Greek city-state were too high they could move to a different city-state, without having to move to a different country.

By giving the citizens of Greece the choice it would force city states to run their operations efficiently and it will force city states not to abuse their power. If they abuse their power citizens will move to another city-state.

By moving power closer to the people Greece also becomes a stronger country. With power being closer to the people it becomes much harder for Greece to be manipulated by multinational companies and foreign governments.

If multinational businesses bribe politicians now, they only have to bribe one person or a small group of people in Athens.  With the city-state model they would have to bribe officials from every city-state, not only would this be much more costly it would also be easier to expose as more people would be involved in the corruption.

Foreign governments and organisations like France and the EU love to have power centralised. It is much easier to get what you want if you only have to deal with one person in Athens. With the Greek city states they would have to deal with numerous officials from all over Greece.

Athens currently has the monopoly power in Greece. For Greece to be free Greece needs to return to a modern city-state model and return the power to the people.

Let the city states compete with each other for tax rates in an effort to create businesses and jobs and watch Greece flourish under a low tax low regulation environment.
