Two sides to every headline

“Camping in a public space is not a constitutional right,” Kaminis

So this is what the Athens mayor thinks the Indignants are doing. Maybe he should go down to the square and asking the Indigants if they are camping or protesting, just so there is no confusion.

Indignants in Syntagma - Are they camping or protesting?

I think he will find the people there are actually protesting. Personally I don’t know, but do the Greeks have the constitutional right to protest in public places?

I don’t know but the mayor of Athens certainly should know and if Greeks do have the constitutional right to protest in public places then why is the mayor wasting public money trying to deal with something that could be completely legal?

And let us not get hung up on semantics (Greek word). If the Athens mayor wants to insist on getting bent out of shape over “camping” then in effect he is saying what methods people can use to protest and what materials they can use.

I am positive the government does not have the right to tell you what materials you can and can’t use in a protest and how and how you cannot use these materials. Unless of course the materials are hazardous to public safety.

If the mayor insists on calling the protesters, “campers” then he is acknowledging that they have the right to protest (because he has not said people cannot protest) and what he is actually trying to do is to tell people how they can protest.

Is that legal in Greece?

With regards to the “campers”/”protesters” upsetting tourists, is that actually the case? Because personally I think people using their freedoms to protest against something they feel is unjust is a beautiful thing.

I think the Athens mayor should put it to a referendum.
Question A: Are the people in Syntagma camping or protesting and
Question B: Do you think they should have the right to do the thing you answered in question A

But do the Greeks really need a referendum for that?

Answers on a postcard please, preferably from Syntagma Square!
