When I read this article about Nikos Dendias I had to check if the Golden Dawn, alleged Nazi Sympathisers had been granted in a ministerial position.
As it turns out they have not, at least not officially. This is a link to the article and I have pasted it in below in case it gets erased from the record.
Greece has a government department called Public Order & Citizens Protection.
To the untrained observer it is almost as if the Greek government is trying to incite civil unrest in their own country
These are the words the Department of Public Order & Citizens Protection use, through their minister Nikos Dendias, to describe people seeking asylum in Greece.
“immigration problem is maybe even bigger than the financial one”
“bomb at the foundations of the society and of the state”
“unless we create the proper structure to handle immigration, then we will fall apart”
“invasion of immigrants”
“is the biggest this country has faced since the invasion of the Dorians”
“Greece and our existence is under threat”
I believe these comments are extremely counterproductive, it is almost as if the Greek government is encouraging civil unrest.
“The immigration problem is maybe even bigger than the financial one,” Public Order and Citizens’ Protection Minister Nikos Dendias said on Monday, in an agonised effort to raise awareness on the magnitude of the problem.
Speaking on Skai radio, Dendias called the immigration issue a “bomb at the foundations of the society and of the state”. Dendias warned that “unless we create the proper structure to handle immigration, then we will fall apart”.
Dendias asked from the Greek society to back the government’s efforts, in order to achieve this goal. He also said that the “invasion of immigrants” is the biggest this country has faced since the invasion of the Dorians at the 4th century B.C. and called on the local authorities to cooperate with the government, arguing that “Greece and our existence is under threat”.
About 1,130 immigrants were brought in for questioning by police on Sunday and 395 were arrested for being unregistered, in the context of a sweep operation code-named “Xenios Zeus” in the wider Athens area, the Attica Police General Directorate (GADA) announced.
Dendias argued that this was not a sweep operation, but an organised operation, aimed to better deal with the issue of immigration. “I am not a magician and I know that I am sitting on an electric chair,” Dendias concluded.
